LG is another maker that's determined to stay ahead in the camera phone niche market. With two high-end, high-MP (read: eight!) phones in the market already, the buzz is around for a 12MP model all set for release. The only other competition that LG has to watch out for comes from Samsung and Sony. One thing that stands out about LG is that most of their camera phones double up as a camcoder, and are capable of taking videos at 30fps (VGA) and the higher-end ones at upto 120 fps (QVGA).

The LG camera phones generally sport a Schneider-Kreuznach lens - some of the best-quality camera lenses come from this German manufacturer (wikipedia trivia tells us that the name is short for Jos. Schneider Optische Werke GmbH). The LG phone "Shine" was the earlierst to feature a certified Schneider lens, and this partnership is a hint at LG's seriousness about the camera aspect of their phone. Many LG models also have a Xenon flash, which is superior to ordinary (LED) flash.

The only slight disappointment is in the zoom department, with most of the models featuring only digital zoom. However, the 12MP-to-be model that we are all looking forward to is said to have optical zoom, so that's something to look forward to.

Interestingly, one of the 8MP models from LG (Viewty Smart) is also one of the slimmest 8MP camera phones around, so bulk is one thing that you don't have to worry about. Also, the camera in the phone is pretty intelligent about the scenarios that you want to shoot in, and can auto-adjust the settings according to what the sensors detect about the surroundings (and how the camera analyzes it). This is a feature absent even from the more basic stand alone digital cameras, and is surely something that we look forward to in future models too. Speaking of which, future models are said to have smile and blink detection so that they refuse to click if you blink, or so much as frown - handy!

The LG smartphones even let you do some geotagging to your pictures automatically, and with these models being touch sensitive with ever-cleaner UIs, you might just want to skip the iphone and give this one a whirl!
