The iphone. It's just about everything. Camera included. The iphone is heavy on features in general - for instance, the wireless card makes on-the-go surfing possible, and with Safari and a bunch of apps whose list runs into pages, the camera is mainly a convenience add-on. Perhaps for that quick pic that you want to snap and upload to twitpic, or your blog, or facebook (ah, is email becoming a thing of yesterday now?). The iphone can also incorprate location data into your photos, so that they are already geotagged when you upload them wherever. Pity the photos themeselves will frequently not be the greatest.

The request/demand for increasing the megapixel count on the iphone has been dubbed as a potentially dangerous one, mainly because the lens of the iphone camera is not capable of autofocus, and is a fixed lens. Therefore, eventually dumping more megapixels could render an underexposed picture, hardly desirable!

There is some compensation, though - the higher end models of iphone jazz it up considerably: 3.2 MP and futher, an auto-focus, auto-white-balance, and auto-macro (upto 10cm). You can also record video at 30 fps (VGA) - not surprisingly, you can directly push it to Youtube, MobileMe, and the like. Zooming in on pictures that you have snapped and are viewing on the iphone is like how you would do it on an iphone - just slide a couple of fingers close together or further apart.

If you are stuck with the 2MP model, or are considering it, then there are ways of making the camera work better. There are a whole bunch of apps that can add features like antishake and burst mode. Check out the 22 ways of making your iphone a better camera, a detailed article on PC Mag which has useful tips for improvization on the device (some of that advice is useful in general, too).
